NINTENDO “SHINES” ABOVE THE COMPETITION

Nintendo scooped six awards at this years’ Golden Joysticks Awards, voted for by visitors to the Computer and Video Games website. As industry members came together under one roof last Friday to hear the great and the good recognised for their hard work and creativity over the past year, champagne corks were popped more than once on the Nintendo table.

2003 has been an exciting year for Nintendo having launched a fantastic software line up for both the NINTENDO GAMECUBE and the recently launched handheld console, the Game Boy Advance SP. The following awards were testament to this year’s success:-

  • Publisher of the Year, Nintendo

  • Hardware of the Year, Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP

  • Most Wanted Game for Christmas, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

  • GameCube Game of the Year, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

  • Handheld Game of the Year, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

But more was still to come, with the sixth award. A first for the Golden Joysticks, the ‘Hall of Fame Industry Personality of the Year’ accolade, was received by Nintendo’s very own Shigeru Miyamoto, proving that he is the greatest video game designer in the world.

Also, exclusive to Nintendo GameCube, Viewtiful Joe from Capcom, won the much deserved ‘Unsung Hero Game of the Year’ award.

So with a current library of over 200 games for NINTENDO GAMECUBE and over 400 games for Game Boy Advance in Europe, Nintendo continues to provide the discerning gamer with everything he or she might want.
