Last year, Spider-man 2 was widely regarded as the superhero game to beat, largely due to the fact that the game gave you free roam of New York City, allowing you to take on the missions that you wanted to or pretty much just hit the city any way you saw fit. In this, Spider-man 2, more than any superhero game to precede it, gave you a real sense of what it was like to actually be Spider-man. Now, the crew at Radical Entertainment is giving the same treatment to the Incredible Hulk, in Ultimate Destruction. A cross between Spider-man 2 and Rampage, Ultimate Destruction allows you to completely level your environment, using cars as shields and weapons, running up the sides of buildings, running helicopters into the ground by riding them and so forth. The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction allows you to act out your primal fantasies to destroy a buildings and cars as the big green beast.

The basic storyline of Ultimate Destruction is that Dr. Bruce Banner, already ostracized for being the Hulk in his off time, feels that something horrible is lurking deep inside of him, something with a terrible lust for destruction that isn’t the Hulk itself. This leads to a showdown with several villains from the Hulk universe, like Abomination, as Banner tries to discover what the reason for his problem is. Okay, so the details are pretty scant, but fret not, as the renowned comic writer Paul Jenkins is the one behind the storyline, meaning that fans shouldn’t feel too worried.

Missions are determined by the Hulk’s awareness of the environment, meaning that they don’t unfold in typical cutscenes. As the Hulk can’t talk, you must assess the situation in order to get your missions and follow the blips on the map instead of listen to a character’s guidelines for action.

However, if you simply feel like tearing through the environments and not taking on any missions, then the world is your oyster. You can destroy basically any object in the world, decimating cars, tossing tanks across the screen, even taking down buildings if you are able. The game is very fun in that regard, and should offer a non-linear action packed game worthy of the comics.

Look for Ultimate Destruction this August.
