Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem is a trip through a twisted mind

Nothing is as it seems – and that’s the good news.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, a Nintendo release for the GameCube, is a psychological thriller that will slowly devolve into the depths of madness.

“The game actually plays tricks on you,” said Nintendo’s Craig Dysart. “It’s like an Alfred Hitchcock movie and a video game.”

Slated for a June 24th release, and an M rating, the game follows an evolving story throughout time. Features include:

  • Uncover the game's intelligent mature storyline stretching through 20 centuries, intended for players 17 and older.
  • Play as twelve different characters weaving a story of love, loss, loyalty and betrayal.
  • Wrap your mind around twisted events that may or may not be true while monitoring the innovative "sanity meter" which adds new levels of unpredictability to your game play experience.
  • Battle enemies with a host of historically accurate weapons with a unique enemy targeting system.
  • Experience the game's Reactive Animation System - a groundbreaking animation engine; and watch with utter amazement as the characters head-track surrounding enemies, become fatigued and interact with environments.
  • Enjoy effects produced by the superior 3D engine, 24-bit color and 640x480 resolution running at 60 frames per second.
  • Marvel at the game's exquisite attention to detail ranging from Latin-language voiceovers to traditional fighting styles.

Graphically the game is outstanding. The environmental graphics, and the interplay of lighting effects appeared superior to anything released for the GameCube to date. There is a fair amount of combat, and the animation appears very fluid. The game evolves with decisions made and will begin a descent into madness. Tiny things may start to appear wrong on the peripheral of your vision, but you may not really notice until well along in the game.

This program is set for a June 24th release, and could well be one of the best-selling GC games of the year.
